PI-Porject’s Mayan Hammocks

PI-Project works with organized groups of Indigenous and Mestizo communities in Mexico… “Fascinated by Mexico’s multiculturalism, we seek to support and promote these communities and their unique handcrafted pieces.”

All their goods really are worth investigating. Their confetti paper is so charming - I remember seeing these hung as a hint of privacy, covering the lower half of a shop window in brooklyn. It was beautiful there and I haven’t forgotten the way that it made me feel when I saw it. I think you could use these to create an experience like that in some special corner of your home.

But back to the hammocks… I have always loved the idea of a hammock but never in practice. The often cotton fibers can feel tough. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing that a blanket wouldn’t solve. But when I touched these… I was in heaven. Smooth to the touch, delicate and strong at the same time. And that fringe as long as wild horse maine… Why shouldn’t this be your weekend reward after a long, hard week?
