STORY

Our
Beauty is the language of care.
— Alice Waters, Coming To My Senses

Play House is a small group of creative professionals who have come together based on a common goal:

to solve problems and tell stories.

What problems you ask? Problems with existing spaces of course. But in addition to that, we knew that changes needed to occur in the industry of residential interiors. 1. Our industry is built around sales, over service, resulting in a transactional relationship that often overpowers a more personal one. 2. Valuable information is commonly withheld on both sides of the transaction. 3. The vague, infrequent, and short term way that money and costs are talked about positions clients to have to make decisions without the information necessary to do so. This keeps them from being able to provide input early enough in the process, which contributes to overrunning costs due to change requests and re-selections.

This all resulted in a way of working that we weren’t particularly proud of. Parties on each side of the transaction end up trying to get as much as possible out of the other, in hopes of feeling, in the end, that they got more than they gave.

We knew that if we would be willing to: be transparent and informative, detailed and accurate in estimating, and prepare clients for what to expect in regards to time and budget… then we could get past the transaction and move on to building the type of relationships that we wanted to be in, freeing us up to create experiences that reflect the storied lives being lived within the spaces in which we work.

With impeccable taste, and over 25 years of experience, we add value by correcting existing problems within the space, protecting you from making costly mistakes, and equipping you with the information necessary to make informed decisions. With our discerning eye, we help you tell the story, of the life that you’ve lived and the life that you envision for yourself.

VALUES

Our
People First. Then Design.
  • Relationships matter to us. With our colleagues, collaborators, and clients - they matter because the health of those relationships determine the quality of our working lives. So we choose them carefully, and then nurture and protect them. Because that’s how we treat things that matter to us.

  • To be a designer is to live and work in service to others, and to see that the spaces we touch do the same. Hospitality is at the very core of that pursuit, permeating our work and our ways. It's the gift of experience, curated by a willingness to hear, see, and serve.

You may not know it while it’s happening, but you certainly know when it’s not.

  • Curiosity drives our work, our understanding about each other, and you. It is what causes us to investigate why things are the way they are, what if they were better in certain ways, and how can we be involved in creating what we want to see. Its the most fun thing to be curious. And the result is information. You can see how you would benefit from that :)

  • Beauty is something that goes beyond visual appeal. When something is beautiful, it works well - it serves a purpose and it communicates a level of thoughtfulness that makes it's inhabitants feel considered. So beauty matters. We don’t want to live without it. So we make sure you don’t have to either.

THE FOUNDER

meet

We build a small team around every project - skilled professionals, trusted collaborators, who we feel are uniquely suited to carry out the design intent most efficiently and effectively. This means that our teams can look quite different from project to project. In order to maintain consistency in both relationship and design, from concept to completion, Lindsey is there to guide every project.

  • Lindsey has been working in the design field for over 25 years. She has completed Design, and Design + Build, projects across the country from California to New York.

Lindsey has always been driven to care for people through the spaces they inhabit. Honoring what has been entrusted to her, while at the same time working to transform it into a reflection of the lives being lived within. Always keeping in mind the goal that any work done, in order to be considered an improvement, must result in a space that is less burdensome, more efficient, higher functioning, deeply personal, and of course... beautiful.

It is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to affect the built environment around us in ways that speak to where we've been, who we want to be, how we live, and what we want to share about ourselves. When she is not doing that work, she is finding some way to deepen her knowledge and understanding of it, constantly learning a never ending subject.

Lindsey believes that the work we do, with and for others, is the work that grows and forms us. To live a life in service to others is a life well lived. Paired with our talents and expertise in bringing beauty to the home - living well is the very thing that we help others do. A we believe there is value in that.
